Home page

Higher Bakesdown is a 400 year old thatched cottage belonging to Todd Varnedoe, the award winning chef, and Kristy Turner.

The cottage is situated a few miles from the beaches of Widemouth Bay and Bude, but is away from the hustle and bustle of the town in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The Hideaway is a private extension to the property which was recently converted from an old piggery! It consists of a private lounge, double bedroom and shower room. Outside there are three acres of gardens and flower meadow to be enjoyed, and a variety of pets and wildlife. For this reason we do not allow
visitors' pets.

The property is situated on the national cycle network and we have storage available for bikes. The area is also popular with surfers and they can store and wash down wet suits and boards here.

Only one couple stays at a time so much privacy is given, though Kristy and Todd are always happy to chat and advise you. Nothing is too much trouble.
Breakfast is served in the cottage dining room, and gourmet dinners are available on several evenings when the owners restaurant in Launceston, La Bouche Creole, is not open. In the evenings you can sit out under the stars which are fantastic here on cloudless evenings.

You are welcome to bring your own drinks.
